ESA letter requirements in Florida
What makes a housing ESA letter useful in Florida: licensed clinician, clinical review, license details, and why instant online certificates fail.
6 min read · Educational only · Not legal advice
Florida housing providers look for a clinical letter they can verify — not a registry ID, vest, or instant online certificate. There is no official government ESA registry in the United States.
Core requirements of a useful letter
- Written by a licensed health professional after a real evaluation
- Provider name, credentials, and license number (Florida license preferred for local housing)
- Statement of disability-related need for the animal (detailed diagnosis is not required)
- Date of issuance
- Contact path so the housing provider can verify authenticity if needed
What is not enough
- Internet “registration” alone (Fla. Stat. § 760.27)
- Certificates or ID cards sold without a clinical relationship
- Guarantees of landlord approval — no ethical provider can promise that
Official ESA Letter standard
Evaluations are performed by a Florida-licensed clinician (Yudelmy Castaneda Sanchez, APRN9355049 / NPI 1730630799). Approval is never automatic. Full refund if not approved. Letters for landlords are issued in English only; consultations available in English or Spanish.
