ESA letter vs registry: why Florida renters should skip online certificates

There is no official government ESA registry in Florida or anywhere in the United States. Sites that sell “registration,” certificates, ID cards, or vests do not create legal rights under the Fair Housing Act.

What Florida law says about online registration

Florida Statute § 760.27 addresses emotional support animals in housing. It states that an internet registration, by itself, is not sufficient information to reliably establish that a person has a disability or a disability-related need for an emotional support animal. Landlords who have been burned by fake paperwork now look for clinical letters they can verify, not a QR code from a registry website.

Clinical letter vs registry certificate

• Clinical ESA letter: written by a licensed health professional after an evaluation; includes credentials and license details; used for a housing accommodation request.
• Registry certificate / ID: paid product with no clinical relationship; carries no independent legal weight in Florida housing.

What a legitimate letter typically includes

• Provider name, credentials, and license number
• State of licensure (Florida for local housing expectations)
• Date of issuance (letters are commonly treated as current for about one year)
• Statement of disability-related need for the animal (diagnosis detail is not required)

What Florida renters should send instead of a registry

Send a written reasonable accommodation request and a current letter from a Florida-licensed clinician.
