Most landlords treat an ESA letter as current for about one year from the date on the letter (or, with Official ESA Letter, from the purchase date if a letter is issued). There is no single federal “expiration stamp,” but annual updates are the industry norm.
Official ESA Letter validity
If a letter is issued after clinical evaluation, it is valid for 1 year from the purchase date. Plan to renew before that window ends if you still need documentation for housing.
Renewal is not automatic
